چکیده

The origin of the grains with diameters less than 4 μm from the inclusions in Antarctic ice cores is discussed. It is proposed that these grains were initiated by ions stopped in the upper atmosphere. The ions form molecules, which coagulate and diffuse downwards. These processes give rise to a characteristic mass spectrum of the small grains. Inclusions in ice were abundant during cold periods of the Pleistocene. This supports a model in which the influx of particles is large when Earth’s orbit stays within a disk shaped cloud around the Sun. The production of such a cloud may favor light atoms. This should e.g. be apparent in the isotope distribution of Magnesium from the small grains. The large grains, which have a variable mass distribution, are terrestrial.

Extraction and parametrization of grain boundary networks in glacier ice, using a dedicated method of automatic image analysis.

Microstructure analysis of polar ice cores is vital to understand the processes controlling the flow of polar ice on the microscale. This paper presents an automatic image processing framework for extraction and parametrization of grain boundary networks from images of the NEEM deep ice core. As cross-section images are acquired using controlled surface sublimation, grain boundaries and air inc...

FIRST REPORT ON PLATINUM-GROUP MINERALS IN CHROMITITES J%OM NORTHWESTERN NEYRIZ OPHIOLITE, IRAN

Electron-probe microanalyses and scanning electron microscopy of chrornitites from some ultramafic members of Neyriz ophiolite indicate that sulifides of platinum- group minerals (PGMs) occur as solid inclusions in chromite grains. Laurite with the general formula of (Ru ,Os ,lr ) S , and erlichmanite are the main identified sulfide phases. The PGMs occur as 4 to 20 microns euhedral to rect...

بررسی کانی‌سازی، زمین‌شیمی و میانبا‌رهای سیال در رگه‌های کوارتز در ذخیره طلای مزرعه شادی (شمال‌شرق تبریز)

The Mazra'eh Shadi is located about 130 km northeast of Tabriz (NW Iran) in the Arasbaran metallogenic belt. The deposit occurs as a series of veins within the Eocene andesites. Mineralization shows epithermal system that controlled by fault distribution. Epithermal textures within the veins include comb, vaggy quartz, cockade, boxworke, plate calcite and breccia. Pyrite is the main ore mineral...

Investigation of mineralogy and geothermometry of quartz and tourmaline veins at the Baghu area, southeast of Damghan

The Baghuo gold mine (Kuhzar) is located about 100 km S-SE of Damghan. The area is part of Torud- Chahshirin volcano- plutonic belt. The hosts of quartz – tourmaline veins are mainly granite, granodiorite and volcanic rocks such as andesite and dacite.  Mineralization occurs as a copper- gold bearing silica vein. Quartz, pyrite, chalcopyrite, gold, hematite, malachite, azurite, covellite and Fe...

Formation of air clathrate hydrates in polar ice sheets: heterogeneous nucleation induced by micro-inclusions

To investigate factors influencing nucleation of air clathrate hydrates in polar ice sheets, we have performed high-resolution mapping of the distributions of soluble impurities, air bubbles and airhydrate crystals versus depth in the Dome Fuji Antarctic ice. Significant correlation observed between the concentrations of air inclusions and impurities in ice along with frequent occurrence of imp...
